Managing Your Facility
Apply or request an increase
The current online service lets existing account holders apply for a new or increased overdraft through online banking or the app. If accepted, the facility is available straight away.
Keep your limit in view
You can request a lower or higher arranged limit online or in the app. If your account is already overdrawn, a reduced limit cannot be below the amount borrowed.
Your Questions, Answered
What is an Overdraft Facility?
A limit agreed with the bank before you borrow. You can apply when opening the account or later, and draw funds up to the agreed limit.
What is an unarranged overdraft?
Your account is overdrawn without an agreed facility, or you exceed your arranged limit. It can affect your credit rating. The bank may decline payments that would use an unarranged overdraft, although it will generally try to make essential payments.
What interest and charges apply?
Interest is payable on the amount borrowed at the applicable overdraft rate, above any interest-free amount that applies. Unarranged borrowing can also incur interest. Check the current price list and your facility terms.
How quickly is a facility activated?
The current website offers an instant decision for existing account holders applying online or in the app. Following a successful application, the arranged limit is normally ready to use straight away.
Can I repay in instalments?
An overdraft does not have the regular scheduled monthly instalments of a personal loan. You are expected to pay into the current account at least monthly to reduce the balance. It is intended for short-term use; longer borrowing can increase the interest charged.
What if I am struggling to repay?
Contact TNB as early as possible. The team will discuss your circumstances and help identify a suitable way forward.
